Arrival at Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort

We kicked off our Walt Disney World trip with a visit to the ‘Ohana character breakfast at Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort. It was our first full day after a late-night arrival, and since it was a non-park day, we had plenty of time to enjoy the experience. This was part of our budget Disney strategy – for complete details, see our How We’re Going to Disney World for Just $1,800 for a Family of 4 breakdown.

We paid for ‘Ohana using Disney gift cards purchased with credit card points. Learn how to earn credit card points for Disney World vacations to fund your character dining experiences.

The Polynesian was stunning from the moment we walked in — tropical decor, lush greenery, and lots of small details to take in. It set a perfect tone for a relaxing morning. If you are spending the day at Magic Kingdom, Disney’s Polynesian Resort is easily accessible via the Monorail.

While we were waiting to be seated, we explored some shops on the second floor of the Polynesian Resort hotel. We just window shopped, but it was a nicely themed little shop.

Check-In and Seating Experience

Check-in for ‘Ohana was smooth, though we did wait about 20 minutes before being seated. We noticed some families lucky enough to get a window seat with a nice view of the Seven Seas Lagoon.

Family-Style Meal and Dietary Challenges

The food service at ‘Ohana is family style, meaning there is no ordering off the menu. Instead, they bring out large platters of predetermined foods for the table to share, including a breakfast skillet filled with island-style potatoes, pork breakfast sausage links, scrambled eggs, and more.

Once at our table, we let our waitress know about our dietary restrictions: two vegetarians, one person who doesn’t eat pork, and one with sensory sensitivities requesting foods not to touch. There was a bit of confusion about the no-pork request.

The waitress seemed unsure and suggested just eating around it. Unfortunately, when the trays arrived, one had Hawaiian-style ham placed directly next to the scrambled eggs. This caused some frustration: our son, who does eat pork breakfast sausage links and ham, wouldn’t eat the ham that touched the eggs, and my husband avoided the part of the eggs touching the ham.

Food Highlights

The Stitch waffles were a huge hit with the kids, and the POG juice (passion-orange-guava) was another favorite that kept everyone refreshed.

The pineapple-coconut breakfast bread was a big hit with everyone at the table, offering a sweet and tropical start to the meal, filled with chunks of real pineapple for an extra burst of pineapple flavor. We also enjoyed a bowl of fresh seasonal fruit served alongside the main dishes.

Character Interaction and Atmosphere

Aside from that hiccup, the breakfast itself was wonderful. The atmosphere was lively but not overwhelming, with a fun atmosphere that fits perfectly into the monorail loop experience. Characters like Lilo, Stitch, Mickey Mouse, and Pluto made their rounds to the tables, and their interactions were warm and genuine.

‘Ohana Character Breakfast

My daughter was absolutely thrilled to meet each character and had them all sign her autograph book — a highlight of her first trip. Side note, autograph books at Disney World range from $15-$30, compared to this one that is $7.45 on Amazon. Stitch, the featured character, was the star of the show for her and many other Stitch fans. Each table was also given an autograph card, which is a nice keepsake.

The little dance parade through the dining room added a cute touch and kept the energy fun for the kids. Whether it was your first character meal or you’re a long-time Disney visitor, ‘Ohana’s character breakfast is a great way to kick off your day.

Overall Experience

Overall, despite a few bumps with the food handling, the character experience, delicious food, and beautiful setting made it a memorable start to our trip. Is Ohana breakfast worth it? If character interactions are a priority, ‘Ohana is a good option — just be prepared to advocate clearly for any specific items or special food requests.

If you have a Lilo and Stitch fan in your party, it maybe worth it to meet these characters. However, if you have picked eaters or dietary restrictions, this place may worth skipping.
